This 3-unit introductory course explores basic knowledge, skills and values in the use of technology in libraries and information centers. It includes ICT policies and safety issues, media and technology in various library services and in the use and design of library services and library instruction that utilize appropriate traditional and innovative technologies with social, ethical and legal responsibility.

The course introduces the students to the history, theories, principles and processes related to descriptive cataloging.  This is mainly a lecture type of class with hands on activities for description of materials using AACR2r MARC 21 and RDA.  This also discusses specific database design concepts relating to the structure of FRBR and RDA.

This three unit course introduces the students to reference resources and bibliographic databases.  It discusses the various reference services and allows the students to experience delivering such either as a class activity or as a mini-practicum to the library.  It also introduces the students to the use of computers in the delivery of reference and other related information services.
